Insider Spotlight
Wine has long been perceived as complex and exclusive, often requiring deep knowledge to enjoy. This program flips that narrative by focusing on accessibility, turning wine into an everyday experience rather than a luxury ritual.
What’s happening
Held every Friday at Gateway Mall 2, the sessions walk participants through the fundamentals of tasting, identifying flavors, and pairing wines with food. The goal is simple: build confidence, not expertise.
The classes are led by in-house sommelier Benedict Tan, a Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 certified wine specialist, who guides attendees through a structured yet relaxed learning format.
By the numbers
Each session runs for 90 minutes and costs P999 per person, positioning the experience as both educational and accessible to a broader market of curious consumers.
The big picture
World Cellar’s initiative reflects a wider shift in the Philippine beverage scene, where experiential learning is becoming a key driver of consumer engagement. Instead of selling just products, brands are now investing in education to build long-term interest.
By breaking down technical jargon and focusing on sensory enjoyment, Wine 101 encourages participants to trust their own taste preferences rather than follow rigid rules.
What they’re saying
The program is designed to “demystify what is often seen as an intimidating subject,” creating a space where both newcomers and enthusiasts can explore wine without pressure.
Bottom line
Wine appreciation is no longer reserved for connoisseurs. With curated, affordable sessions and expert guidance, Araneta City is positioning wine as an approachable lifestyle experience—one glass at a time. — Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
