Insider Spotlight
Located at 102 Forbestown Road in Bonifacio Global City, the restaurant marks the brand's return to Southeast Asia following its expansion into Vancouver and Toronto, Canada.
Why it matters
The Philippine debut adds another internationally acclaimed dining concept to BGC's competitive restaurant market, bringing Vietnamese culinary traditions alongside contemporary dining experiences.
The expansion is spearheaded by co-founder Michael Tran, culinary director and co-owner chef Benedict Lim, and co-founder Victoria Tran, in partnership with HTCG Premium Food Concepts Inc., led by Annabelle Chua.
The bigger picture
The Lunch Lady traces its origins to 1995, when Nguyễn Thị Thành began serving rotating noodle soups at her modest stall in Ho Chi Minh City.
Her international recognition accelerated after Anthony Bourdain featured her cooking on No Reservations in 2009.
Following Thành's passing in May 2025, the restaurant group continued preserving her family recipes while developing its international footprint.
The brand received five consecutive Michelin Bib Gourmand distinctions in Vancouver from 2022 through 2026 and another in Toronto in 2026.
What's on the menu
The Manila restaurant will feature two dining programs, with lunch centered on traditional Vietnamese noodle soups and dinner emphasizing contemporary interpretations of Southeast Asian cuisine.
Signature offerings include Wagyu Phở, Steak Lúc Lắc and Garlic Noodles, complemented by charcoal cooking, locally sourced ingredients and craft cocktails.
"Bringing The Lunch Lady to Manila gives us an opportunity to explore parts of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian cooking that we haven't been able to in the same way in North America," The Lunch Lady culinary director and co-owner Benedict Lim said.
What's next
The restaurant's opening will introduce Manila diners to the brand's culinary philosophy, balancing traditional Vietnamese street-food heritage with modern innovation.
Its arrival also strengthens the Philippines' position as a destination for internationally recognized restaurant brands seeking growth in Southeast Asia. —Shawn Yao | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
