The initiative comes as online fraud continues to rise in the country. A recent Global Anti-Scam Alliance survey revealed that more than 75 percent of Filipino adults encountered at least one scam in the past year.
With scam attempts typically increasing during the holiday season, the campaign urges users to pause, reflect, and “think twice” before engaging with suspicious offers or investment opportunities online.
Deepening digital literacy
During the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), TikTok and the SEC reaffirmed their commitment to equip Filipinos with the skills and tools needed to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly.
“TikTok has always prioritized the safety of its community, investing in technology, human moderation, and educational initiatives to get ahead of emerging threats,” Yves Gonzalez, head of public policy for the Philippines at TikTok, said in a press release.
“While the fight against scams is a multi-sectoral one, we’re confident our partnership with the SEC is an important step in empowering Filipinos to navigate the digital world safely,” said Gonzalez.
Educating Filipinos to spot, avoid financial scams
Under the collaboration, TikTok and the SEC will co-produce a series of #ThinkTwice educational videos illustrating common financial and investment scams, how to verify information sources, and practical steps to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
The first release focuses on Ponzi schemes, which promise guaranteed returns to existing investors using the funds of new recruits.
The video explains how these schemes operate, common phrases or tactics used by scammers, and safeguards viewers can adopt. All content will be accessible on TikTok’s social channels, the #ThinkTwice Resource Hub, and the SEC’s official platforms—ensuring credible, easy-to-understand information reaches millions of Filipino users.
Strengthening consumer protection, digital resilience
The partnership builds on TikTok’s expanding efforts in digital literacy and online safety. Previous collaborations include working with the Commission on Elections on misinformation prevention and with the Department of Migrant Workers on recruitment scam awareness.
Through these initiatives, TikTok aims to empower Filipinos to stay informed, make safe decisions, and navigate digital environments with confidence.
“The SEC is continuously finding ways to reach more people and spread our message of financial literacy to ensure that every Filipino has the knowledge and tools to make smart and informed investment decisions,” said SEC Commissioner Rogelio Quevedo.
“Through our partnership with TikTok, we are able to spread our message to more Filipinos and provide clear and practical guidance on how they can protect their hard-earned money, especially during the holiday season.” —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
