Held on April 4 at the SEC Headquarters in Makati City, the ceremonial launch was led by SEC Chair Emilio B. Aquino and BDO Foundation president Mario A. Deriquito. The two organizations unveiled two educational videos highlighting the red flags of potential investment scams, aiming to equip Filipinos with the tools to protect themselves from fraudulent schemes.
Identifying, avoiding scams
“These materials are crucial in empowering our citizens with knowledge to identify and avoid scams,” Aquino said. “While the SEC has always prioritized investor protection, we recognize the importance of collaboration. We are grateful to have BDO Foundation as a key partner in this initiative.”
The videos will be widely disseminated through SEC and BDO Foundation’s programs, training sessions, seminars, and social media platforms. This rollout ensures accessibility for audiences across the country, particularly sectors most vulnerable to financial fraud.
The initiative builds on the partnership established in 2023 when BDO Foundation joined the SEC Capital Markets Promotion and Awareness Inter-Agency Network (SEC CAMPAIGN Network). This network is a core component of the SEC Communication, Advocacy, and Network (SEC CAN!)—the Commission’s flagship program for investor education.
Investor protection
“Financial education is at the heart of BDO Foundation’s mission,” said Deriquito. “We believe that by providing Filipinos with essential financial knowledge and values, they can build secure futures. Investor protection plays a vital role in this effort, especially for groups like teachers, OFWs, civil servants, and MSMEs, who are also part of SEC’s target audiences.”
By spotlighting the dangers of investment scams and providing practical tools for prevention, the investor protection videos reflect a proactive approach to safeguarding the financial well-being of Filipinos.
