The Bicol Region (Region V) is the first in the country to institutionalize Cha-Ching into its basic education curriculum, reflecting the program’s growing footprint.
Since its launch in the Philippines, more than 1.5 million children have received Cha-Ching instruction, and more than 47,000 teachers have been trained or retrained.
At an event held on June 25 at the Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City, partners gathered to celebrate the program’s milestones and affirm their shared goal of financial empowerment under the theme “Cha-Ching: Creating a Financially Literate Future Together.”
“When we teach children the value of money early on, we are empowering a generation to make smarter choices and build a financially secure future,” said Paul Mandal, chief legal and sustainability officer of Pru Life UK.
Developed by the Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm of Prudential plc, Cha-Ching is an award-winning financial education program for children aged seven to 12. It instills essential money values—earn, save, spend, and donate—through engaging lessons.
Implemented in collaboration with JA Asia Pacific, the program has reached over 3 million children in 16 countries, with 87,000 teachers trained globally.
The June 25 event featured a panel discussion on best practices in financial education, with insights from DepEd Region V Director Dr. Gilbert Sadsad, DepEd Region VI Asst. Director Dr. Miguel Mac Aposin, and JA Philippines board president Jed Velarde. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
