In a buy-bust operation, two Chinese nationals were caught attempting to sell 4,000 pre-registered SIMs, including 1,700 Globe and 2,300 TM cards. These SIMs were reportedly intended for phishing, scams, and other fraudulent activities.
Globe General Counsel Atty. Froilan Castelo praised the operation as evidence that the SIM Registration Act is curbing fraud.
“We laud the PNP-CIDG for carrying out this operation, which led to a significant win against fraudsters. Let this successful police operation serve as proof that the SIM Registration Act is working, and that it is a powerful tool against scammers,” Castelo said in a statement on Tuesday.
Globe reminded customers to stay vigilant by avoiding SIMs with tampered packaging, which may indicate prior use or repackaging, and to buy sealed SIMs only from legitimate retailers.
