Public-private partnership builds lifeline for wounded AFP personnel

A new state-of-the-art Bagong Bayaning Mandirigma Casualty Care Center (BBM CCC) has officially opened at the AFP Medical Center (V. Luna General Hospital) in Quezon City, offering world-class medical treatment to Filipino soldiers wounded in the line of duty.

This milestone initiative was made possible by the joint efforts of One Meralco Foundation (OMF), Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc. (CSFI) of the 19th Philippine Congress, PLDT-Smart Foundation, and Metro Pacific Investments Foundation.

The newly inaugurated BBM CCC features a minor operating room, trauma and wound care center, and patient wards, capable of serving up to 405 patients monthly. The facility’s infrastructure was built and renovated with support from MIESCOR Logistics, Meralco’s engineering arm.

Meralco and OMF chair Manuel V. Pangilinan underscored the significance of this public-private collaboration: “This center is a tangible expression of our commitment to our military heroes. It is a beacon of what we can achieve when we work together for a shared purpose.”

The BBM CCC is the first phase of a larger health initiative—the Bagong Bayaning Mandirigma Casualty and Cancer Care Center. The second phase, a cancer care facility for soldiers battling serious illnesses, is expected to be completed by mid-2025 through the support of the Makati Medical Center Foundation.

Brigadier General Jonna D. Dalaguit, commander of the AFP Medical Center, emphasized that the BBM CCC reflects what can be achieved through strategic collaboration: “This facility is a testament to the power of partnership in securing the well-being of those who safeguard our nation.”

House Speaker Martin Romualdez expressed full support for the initiative, calling it a “lifeline” for military personnel facing health challenges after their service.

CSFI chair Rep. Yedda K. Romualdez and CSFI president Rosemary “Baby” Arenas both lauded the MVP Group’s continuing advocacy for military health and called the center a “symbol of gratitude” for soldiers who stand on the frontlines.

OMF president Jeffrey O. Tarayao reinforced OMF’s mission to bring light and hope where it’s most needed: “This is our way of showing pagmamalasakit (compassion) to our modern-day heroes who risk everything for our safety and freedom.” —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
