Insider Spotlight
The deal places Prifood among early movers in the Visayas leveraging the government-backed Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), which allows businesses to pool demand and negotiate better electricity terms.
The details
The agreement covers two plants in Mandaue City with a combined demand of up to 750 kW. By consolidating its energy requirements, Prifood gains stronger purchasing leverage and tighter control over consumption across facilities.
COREnergy operates as a “gentailer,” integrating power generation and retail supply. This setup enables customized, end-to-end energy solutions aligned with operational needs, potentially improving cost efficiency and reliability.
The bigger picture
The Energy Regulatory Commission’s move to lower the contestable threshold is expanding access to programs like RAP. What used to be limited to large industrial players is now opening up to mid-sized manufacturers, commercial establishments, and institutions.
That shift is accelerating adoption of competitive retail electricity supply models, particularly among growth-stage companies looking to manage costs amid volatile energy prices.
What they’re saying
“For us, innovation goes beyond the product. It extends to how we run our operations,” Enrico Yap, assistant general manager of Prifood Corp., said in a press statement on April 15, 2026. “Through this partnership, we are integrating more sustainable and smarter approaches to energy, ensuring that our growth remains both competitive and responsible,” he added,
“At COREnergy, we were built to open doors for businesses to take control of how they use energy,” said Marko Sarmiento, COREnergy Retail and Sales Head.
“Through the Power of Choice, we enable manufacturers like Prifood to align their energy strategies with their operational goals—driving productivity, profitability, and performance to support long-term growth.”
Bottom line
As more firms enter RAP, energy sourcing is becoming a strategic lever, not just a utility expense, for Philippine manufacturers scaling nationwide. —Vanessa Hidalgo |Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
