Recognized for its commitment to integrating children’s rights across governance, workplace, marketplace, community, and environmental policies, PLDT earned an impressive 9.9 out of 10 score, the telco said in a statement.
This placed PLDT just behind Singapore-based agribusiness giant Wilmar International Ltd., which achieved a perfect score of 10, and ahead of multinational confectionery company The Hershey Co., which scored 9.3.
PLDT said its score was the highest in the technology and telecommunications sector worldwide.
This independent rating tracked the Philippine telco’s performance and progress reporting in line with the adoption of the Children’s Rights and Business Principles (CRBP) framework and upholding children’s safety and welfare across its business operations.
“We’re proud to be among the top companies in the world in helping protect the rights of children. This recognition is a testament to the work our people have done in this regard—we congratulate them, and we commit to working even harder to create safe spaces for Filipino children online,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, PLDT chair and CEO.
Conducted in partnership with Boston Consulting Group, the GCF report evaluated over 1,800 companies worldwide, offering insights for businesses to embed children’s rights into their operational frameworks.
PLDT’s efforts include stringent anti-child labor policies, support for family-friendly workplace initiatives, and a dedicated child protection platform that has blocked over 1.5 million harmful URLs since 2021.
Through collaborations with UNICEF and multi-sector entities, PLDT actively addresses emerging child rights issues, particularly in technology-related areas, it said.
The company’s initiatives align with the UN Global Compact and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, marking it as a leader in promoting children’s rights within the corporate sector.
