In an article published on July 25, TTW said the top 50 list was selected from more than 500 beaches across hundreds of destinations worldwide. The rankings were based on destination quality, diversity, and regional balance rather than popularity alone.
The 2026 list was topped by Greece, followed by Australia, Mexico, Spain, Thailand, the United States, Türkiye, the Philippines, Italy, and Portugal.
According to TTW, the rankings recognize destinations that continue to "inspire travelers through their diversity, authenticity and ability to deliver unforgettable seaside experiences."
“Outstanding beach destinations also serve as powerful engines of economic growth. They create employment, support local communities, protect fragile coastal ecosystems and strengthen the global tourism competitiveness of their nations,” wrote TTW founder and editor-in-chief Anup Kumar Keshan.
He said the destinations included in the top 50 demonstrate that sustainable coastal tourism is not only preserving some of the planet's most extraordinary shorelines but also "shaping the future of global travel by balancing environmental stewardship with long-term prosperity."
Island-paradise
The Philippines, which the publication described as an “island paradise of more than 7,000 islands,” earned the distinction for its powder-soft white-sand beaches, emerald lagoons, towering limestone cliffs, and some of the world's richest coral reefs.
“From the breathtaking shores of Palawan and Boracay to the pristine islands of Coron, Siargao and Bohol, travelers can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, freediving, kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, sailing and unforgettable island-hopping adventures,” TTW said.
“Whether exploring hidden lagoons, vibrant marine sanctuaries or secluded tropical beaches, visitors are rewarded with extraordinary biodiversity, crystal-clear waters, fresh seafood, luxury island resorts, spectacular sunsets and warm Filipino hospitality, making the Philippines one of the world's finest tropical beach destinations."

The publication also listed the Philippines' top 10 beaches, with five located in Palawan. They are:

Research
For this year's global ranking of beach travel destinations, TTW said it used a research framework developed by its editorial and research team.
The assessment drew from more than 500 beaches across hundreds of destinations worldwide before narrowing the field to the top 50 based on factors such as natural beauty, accessibility, tourism infrastructure, sustainability, marine biodiversity, visitor experience, and international appeal.
TTW said the study employed descriptive, comparative, and qualitative methods, evaluating countries on the overall strength of their coastal tourism offerings rather than on a single beach or resort.
The review covered a wide range of destinations, including tropical islands, coral atolls, surf beaches, secluded coves, family-friendly shores, luxury resorts, marine reserves, and protected coastal landscapes.
TTW said the research drew on information from national tourism boards, government agencies, destination organizations, UNESCO resources, marine conservation agencies, aviation data, environmental studies, tourism statistics, hospitality publications, visitor reviews, and recognized travel organizations.
The findings were validated using official statistics, government publications, conservation research, destination reports, and visitor indicators.
