The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) has called for a focused crackdown on alien hacking and scam syndicates, emphasizing that these underground operators – not legitimate Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) – pose a real threat to national security.

The country’s top gaming regulator, Al Tengco, wants a crackdown on alien criminal syndicates instead.

In a statement, Pagcor chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco highlighted that legal internet gaming licensees contributed over P5 billion to state gaming agnecy’s revenues in 2023, significantly benefiting the economy.

Tengco stressed the need to target criminal syndicates, which operate covertly and evade legal frameworks, posing substantial risks.

The Pagcor chief said his agency is cooperating fully with law enforcement to dismantle these groups and has appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities.

Tengco defended licensed POGOs, noting they are closely monitored, pay taxes, and create legitimate jobs.

He reiterated that intensifying anti-crime operations against alien hackers and scammers, rather than targeting lawful gaming operators, is crucial for maintaining national security and economic stability.
