Insider Spotlight
Oona Insurance has launched Global Shield and Purple Shield, two flagship health plans designed to give Filipinos more personal, flexible, and comprehensive protection than traditional insurance models.
The launch was held on Oct. 1 at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, gathering media, industry leaders, and partners.
“The Philippines is ready for a new standard in health protection,” Abhishek Bhatia, founder and group CEO of Oona Insurance, said in a press release on Oct. 16, 2025.
“With Global Shield and Purple Shield, we are reimagining health care for Filipinos and delivering world-class coverage, seamless digital access and peace of mind, whether at home or anywhere in the world.”
Why it matters
Health-care costs in the Philippines are rising faster than incomes, leaving families exposed to steep out-of-pocket expenses. Oona’s new plans move away from one-size-fits-all coverage, offering customizable options that match diverse lifestyles and financial goals.
Purple Shield: Peso-based plan with up to P5 million local coverage and optional co-payment features that can unlock up to 25 percent in premium discounts.
Global Shield: International coverage of up to $2 million, including flexible geographic exclusions for savings and competitive rates for treatment in Singapore.
Both plans offer comprehensive travel protection, mental health support, and specialized care such as HIV/AIDS, congenital conditions, and bariatric surgery benefits.
Digital-first approach
Oona pairs its coverage with a fully digital experience: instant quotes, same-day policy issuance, paperless onboarding, real-time claim tracking, and fully digital overseas reimbursements.
Members also gain access to 650+ hospitals nationwide and 24/7 online consultations through partnerships with MediLink and Doctor Anywhere.
Holistic care
“For Filipinos, protection isn’t just about covering hospital bills. It’s about staying healthy and caring for the whole family,” said Ninoy Rollan, CEO of Oona Philippines.
Preventive benefits—such as check-ups, vaccinations, telemedicine, and mental health services—anchor the plans’ holistic and family-first approach. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
