Tycoon Kevin Tan-led Megaworld Corp. has flipped the switch on its green energy transition, becoming the largest Philippine property firm to fully power its commercial portfolio with 100 percent renewable energy.

This covers 54 of its key properties—26 office towers, 15 lifestyle malls and retail hubs, and eight hotels—spread across townships like Uptown Bonifacio, Eastwood City, and Boracay Newcoast.

These sites, classified as “Contestable Customers” under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) rules, each consume over 500 kW of power.

The move comes after a March 2024 partnership with MPower, a unit of Manila Electric Co., and additional deals with Ayala's ACEN to supply renewable energy to its residential and office sites.

“Reaching 100 percent renewable energy for all our properties is a significant leap forward in our sustainability journey,” said Jose Arnulfo Batac, head of sustainability at Megaworld.

“This milestone underscores Megaworld’s long-term commitment to environmental stewardship, and we are fully committed to extending these efforts to all our developments as we work towards building townships of the future powered by fully sustainable energy sources,” he added.

The company is also pushing for a full transition of non-contestable properties, including those under subsidiaries and joint ventures, by 2030.
