McDonald’s is broadening its menu in the Philippines as Korean flavors and culture gain wider traction across Asia, using chicken products to give customers more choices beyond its established offerings.

Popular K-culture

The fast-food chain on Sept. 17 debuted its Asia Chicken Campaign in the Philippines, part of a regional initiative across 13 markets led by McDonald’s Korea. The campaign pairs McDonald’s with South Korean artist G-DRAGON and draws on the broader popularity of K-culture.

The Philippine menu adds McSpicy, a chicken sandwich made with a whole-cut chicken thigh fillet coated in spicy seasoning and served with lettuce and mayonnaise on a toasted bun.

McDonald’s is also offering Chicken McNuggets with Cajun Sauce, combining its existing nuggets with a creamy sauce described by the company as savory, tangy and mildly spicy.

McDonald’s joins forces with G-DRAGON, a global cultural icon whose influence transcends music, fashion, art, and popular culture, creating a powerful ‘ICON×ICON’ partnership that celebrates the growing global influence of Korean culture. | Contributed photo

Chicken lineup refresh

The additions give McDonald’s another way to refresh its chicken lineup through flavors linked to regional consumer trends rather than introducing an entirely new product category.

The company said the regional campaign is expected to reach hundreds of millions of consumers, combining McDonald’s scale with the international reach of Korean popular culture.

Exclusive merch

Beyond food, McDonald’s plans digital content and limited-time customer experiences across the participating markets. It will also offer exclusive PEACEMINUSONE merchandise developed with G-DRAGON.

‘Feel good moments’

“The Asia Chicken Campaign brings together two globally recognized icons, McDonald’s and G-DRAGON, in a unique collaboration inspired by the growing influence of Korean flavor and culture across Asia. Through this partnership, we are excited to create memorable experiences that connect people through great taste, creativity, and shared cultural moments. As only McDonald’s can, we are proud to deliver Feel Good Moments to customers across Asia,” McDonald’s Philippines brand manager Karl Christian Chua said in a press statement. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S.
