This distinction, endorsed by the United Nations’ “Race to Zero” campaign, highlights Maynilad’s commitment to eco-friendly operations.
The certification was awarded to WATERLab, Maynilad’s central laboratory for water and wastewater quality monitoring, after implementing various sustainability measures.
My Green Lab, a leading non-profit body promoting environmental responsibility in scientific facilities, recognized the lab’s efforts in water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
Since starting its sustainability journey in May 2024, WATERLab has introduced initiatives such as flow-limiting faucets, LED lighting, and inverter air-conditioning to reduce resource consumption.
The facility also eliminated single-use plastics, switched to reusable glassware, and partnered with eco-friendly suppliers, earning an impressive 97 percent rating—the highest Green-level certification.
“This achievement affirms Maynilad’s environmental stewardship and operational excellence,” said Atty. Roel S. Espiritu, Maynilad’s chief sustainability officer. “We hope this inspires other laboratories to adopt sustainable practices, contributing to a greener and more resilient future.”
Maynilad’s sustainability roadmap includes plans to further enhance efficiency, reduce emissions from sampling activities, and integrate electric vehicles into its fleet by 2025.
As the largest private concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), Maynilad continues to lead in responsible water management and environmental sustainability. — Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
