As part of its Green Heart program, the luxury resort has introduced an innovative solution to combat plastic waste: a water filtration and bottling system that eliminates single-use plastic bottles.
“We are elevating our waste management protocols through the Okada Green Heart program. This bold move proves that we can prioritize the planet while still delivering a premium experience to our guests,” said Byron Yip, Okada Manila president and COO.
The initiative, a collaboration with Swedish company Nordaq, employs state-of-the-art filtration technology to produce premium, filtered water served in reusable glass bottles.
The system is capable of bottling 1,000 liters of water per hour, significantly reducing plastic waste. Okada Manila estimates it will eliminate the use of about two million single-use plastic bottles yearly.
“By embracing this change, we’re not just reducing waste—we’re setting a new standard for what responsible hospitality should look like,” said Rob Scott, vice president of hotel operations.
This sustainable transition enhances guest experiences while aligning with global efforts to reduce plastic pollution. Okada Manila plans to expand the initiative across its operations, showcasing how luxury and sustainability can coexist.
“We hope guests will enjoy this eco-friendly choice and join us toward a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come,” Scott added.--Ed: CSN
