The findings reflect a business sector that remains hopeful about future opportunities but wary of persistent economic challenges, Lalamove said in a press statement.
Mixed outlook as SMEs face economic headwinds
The survey, conducted between September and October among nearly 500 respondents—mostly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—revealed that 61 percent of Filipino SMEs feel “cautious but optimistic” about the 2026 business landscape compared to 2025.
Meanwhile, 22 percent said their outlook remains unchanged or uncertain, while a still-notable 31 percent expressed confidence in stronger business prospects next year.
Despite the optimism, SMEs remain guarded due to ongoing economic pressures. Lalamove’s findings showed that 83 percent of respondents expect inflation and possible interest rate hikes to limit business growth over the next 12 months.
Another 82 percent cited low consumer spending or fluctuating customer demand, while 72 percent pointed to high logistics costs as a potential barrier to expansion in 2026.
These concerns reflect business owners’ heightened sensitivity to economic volatility and its impact on profitability.
“At Lalamove, we value the insights of the many businesses we serve. Our survey underscores both their optimism and their concerns about the business landscape in the coming months,” said Djon Nacario, managing director of Lalamove Philippines. “We remain focused on helping them manage costs and become more flexible through affordable and efficient on-demand logistics solutions.”
SMEs gear up early for holiday season demand
As the year nears its end, Filipino SMEs are already preparing for the holiday surge. According to the survey, 60 percent of respondents have increased or stocked up on inventory, while 37 percent planned to adjust delivery timelines as early as September, anticipating the traditional spike in Christmas demand.
Despite recent calamities and political developments that could affect holiday spending, sentiment remains positive. A strong 67 percent of SME owners believe consumers will continue typical holiday preparations, driving them to launch early seasonal marketing and advertising campaigns.
On-demand delivery among top operational priorities
The survey also highlighted the critical role of logistics in supporting business continuity. About 72 percent of SMEs identified on-demand delivery services as essential resources, underscoring the rising dependence on fast, flexible, and affordable logistics solutions.
Pricing remains the top consideration when choosing a delivery partner, followed by delivery speed and reliability.
With its reputation as one of the most affordable on-demand delivery platforms for businesses, Lalamove has continued to enhance its offerings by introducing facial recognition for driver verification and upgrading default insurance coverage to P20,000 for package loss or damage.
As SMEs continue to adapt to economic shifts, platforms like Lalamove are expected to play a pivotal role in helping businesses stay resilient, efficient, and competitive as they move into 2026. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
