Prioritizing overall well-being is a key component of TELUS Digital’s corporate strategy. Its commitment to employee wellness reinforces a people-first culture that drives innovation and enhances customer experiences.
“Mental well-being is a core part of how we help our team members thrive. We ensure support is accessible all year long—from 24/7 counseling through our employee assistance program to regular mental wellness learning sessions and community-building activities across sites,” Michelle Trinidad, people and culture director at TELUS Digital Philippines, said in an interview with InsiderPH.
These community-building activities integrate movement, mindfulness, connection, and psychological safety into daily routines, fostering a workplace where every employee feels seen and empowered.
Building a supportive, resilient workforce
Complex tech workplaces like TELUS Digital often face unique pressures from customers who expect real-time problem solving and strong analytical skills in daily operations.
To address these challenges, the company provides comprehensive mental wellness support through its 24/7 employee assistance program (EAP), offering free mental, financial, and legal consultations.
Complementing this are HR wellness webinars and employee resource groups as well as coaching programs that build resilience and psychological safety.
Leaders are also trained to recognize early signs of burnout and foster open conversations about well-being.
“Leaders are equipped to identify signs of distress and provide psychological first aid through targeted training sessions that emphasize empathy, awareness, and active listening,” Trinidad explained.
Training for psychological safety
TELUS Digital also introduced a dedicated mental health learning track led by licensed psychologists.
These workshops cover effective communication, self-care practices and recognizing psychiatric red flags. As a result, this equips leaders and team members to create safe, compassionate spaces for their teams.
Powered by TELUS Health, the EAP provides confidential 24/7 counseling and professional support for employees and their families at no additional cost.
Specialized wellness sessions on psychological first aid, emotional literacy, and destigmatizing mental health at work further reinforce this support system.
This comprehensive approach appears effective. A company-wide survey in June showed that 81 percent of 19,189 respondents found their work-related stress manageable.
“Regular one-on-one coaching sessions and frequent touchpoints between leaders and frontliners create safe spaces for honest conversations about workload, stressors, and well-being,” Trinidad added.
Extending care beyond the workplace
Recognizing that family concerns are a primary source of employee stress, TELUS Digital enhanced its health plans to fully cover each team member’s first dependent at no additional cost. This upgrade helps ease financial and emotional burdens.
Health coverage begins on the first day of employment, extends to dependents as well as same-sex or domestic partners, and absorbs insurance premium increases to avoid additional financial strain.
Acknowledging that financial pressures also affect mental health, TELUS Digital offers inclusive financial wellness programs, including savings plans, access to low-interest loans, and financial counseling. These initiatives promote both stability and empowerment among team members.
A data-driven future for mental wellness
In the coming years, TELUS Digital plans to strengthen its mental health initiatives through a three-pronged approach: addressing specific employee needs, expanding mental health services and helplines and adopting a data-driven strategy to measure impact and refine support systems.
“Our approach treats well-being as multi-dimensional—recognizing that supporting team members physically, mentally, socially, and professionally enables them to thrive and contribute at their best,” Trinidad said.
