Govt Fights Inflation Amid El Niño, La Niña Threats

Finance Secretary Ralph Recto on Friday reaffirmed the Philippine government's commitment to safeguarding Filipinos' purchasing power amid the El Niño and La Niña weather phenomena, which threaten food and energy security.

The Inter-Agency Committee on Inflation and Market Outlook is closely monitoring these weather patterns and their impact on essential goods prices, he said in a statement.

Efforts to mitigate inflation, especially for vulnerable communities, include ensuring ample imports and boosting agricultural productivity, the Finance chief added.

Despite El Niño's challenge, the government reported a 3.7% inflation rate in March — within its target range — by implementing effective measures against rising costs.

The administration's proactive stance aims to ensure economic stability and support for those affected by these climatic conditions, Recto said.
