Google has announced the launch of its News AI Lab in the Philippines, an 18-month program aimed at helping local journalists and newsrooms integrate artificial intelligence into their operations.

Set to begin on July 11, 2025, and run through January 2027, the initiative is open to individual content creators and registered news organizations in the country. It is designed to support digital-first media outlets and new entrants seeking to adopt AI tools in content production, distribution, and monetization.

The program will be delivered in three stages. The first is a six-week, self-paced online training module focused on foundational AI knowledge. This will be followed by a three-day in-person workshop featuring hands-on sessions with Google’s AI products and guided design thinking exercises.

The final and longest phase involves 15 months of AI implementation support, where participants will develop and integrate AI solutions tailored to their newsroom workflows.

Google emphasized the program’s potential to help participants build working AI prototypes with ongoing technical and strategic support.

The company is positioning the News AI Lab as part of its broader commitment to helping the media industry adapt to digital transformation and the challenges of a rapidly evolving information ecosystem.

Applications close on June 26 at 6:00 PM Philippine time. Interested parties are encouraged to register through the official News AI Lab signup page .
