Insider Spotlight

  • Free loan and health insurance now bundled with every eligible GLoan
  • Coverage applies automatically to loans worth at least P500
  • Program runs for a limited time starting Jan. 16

Fuse Financing Inc., the lending arm of GCash, is rolling out free insurance coverage for GLoan borrowers through a new feature called GLoan Protect, aiming to cushion Filipinos against sudden life and health emergencies.

The big picture

Life disruptions such as medical emergencies, accidents, or death often lead to financial distress for Filipino families, especially those without insurance.

Hospitalization costs can quickly pile up, forcing borrowers into deeper debt and leaving families with limited options to recover.

What’s new

GLoan Protect automatically provides free loan and health insurance for every GLoan disbursement worth a minimum of P500. The coverage is underwritten by Oona Insurance Corp. and is available for a limited time. No additional enrollment or payment is required from borrowers.

Why it matters

“Oftentimes, Filipinos don’t think of insurance until it’s too late,” said Tony Isidro, president and CEO of Fuse Financing Inc., the lending arm of GCash.

“With the free insurance, we’re making sure that every time someone gets a GLoan, they also get a safety net. It’s our way of helping users feel more secure and protected without them having to spend extra,” Isidro said in a press release.

How it works

Under GLoan Protect, borrowers receive free health insurance that includes a hospitalization allowance. Eligible users confined in a hospital for a minimum of three days may claim a minimum of P500 or up to ten percent of the total loan value.

The loan insurance component activates automatically once the loan proceeds are released.

Coverage remains valid until the end of the loan term, even if the borrower fully pays off the loan ahead of schedule.

In cases of customer demise or accident-related permanent disability, beneficiaries will receive the remaining loan value, while the outstanding balance will be waived and settled.

Between the lines

By embedding insurance into its lending product, GCash—through Fuse and GInsure—extends protection across credit, health, and life needs.

GInsure already offers inclusive insurance products across 11 categories, including accident, travel, vehicle, and health.

“We see this synergy between Fuse and GInsure as part of our mission to reimagine what finance can do for every Filipino,” said Winsley Bangit, group head of new businesses at Mynt.

“By combining credit and insurance on a single service, we’re pushing the boundaries of digital innovation.”

The partnership

The initiative is backed by Oona Insurance Corp., which is expanding its digital-first health solutions in the Philippines.

“Our mission at Oona is to make protection part of everyday life,” said Abhishek Bhatia, founder and CEO of Oona Insurance.
