The inclusion highlights the country’s growing fintech sector and its progress in financial inclusion, the company said in a statement on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025.
The WEF Unicorn Community, a subset of the WEF’s Innovator Communities, brings together some of the world’s most promising startups and scale-ups driving technological and business model innovation.
Mynt said membership in this network offers it the opportunity to engage with global policymakers and business leaders, contributing to discussions on advancing financial inclusion, particularly in emerging markets like the Philippines.
“We are honored to be part of the World Economic Forum Unicorns Community—representing the Philippines and its booming fintech industry,” Mynt president and CEO Martha Sazon said. “This reflects our commitment to transforming financial services in our country and contributing to global financial inclusion and innovation conversations. We look forward to engaging with other leaders and exploring new ways to drive positive change.”
Founded in 1971 in Geneva, Switzerland, the World Economic Forum serves as a platform for public-private cooperation, shaping global economic policies and fostering collaboration across sectors.
The organization hosts its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, where government and business leaders discuss global challenges. This year’s forum from Jan. 20 to 24, focuses on the theme “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age.”
Mynt, valued at $5 billion, is the first and only Philippine fintech “unicorn” — a firm worth at least $1 billion.
It operates GCash, the country’s leading finance super app, and Fuse Lending, a digital lending platform offering microloans and business financing. GCash provides a wide range of financial services, including digital payments, savings, credit, insurance, and investment products.
By participating in the WEF Unicorn Community, Mynt aims to leverage its financial technology expertise to address financial inclusion challenges and expand its impact beyond the Philippine market, the company said.
