DOE, Robinsons Land push practical energy-saving habits

As electricity demand continues to rise and energy costs weigh on households and businesses, the Department of Energy (DOE) is encouraging Filipinos to adopt simple, consistent habits that can help reduce unnecessary power use.

The DOE, in partnership with Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC), introduced “O.N.E.: Oras Natin sa Efficiency” at Robinsons Galleria Ortigas, a nationwide advocacy campaign that promotes practical energy-saving practices across homes, businesses, institutions, and public establishments.

Shared effort

The O.N.E. campaign encourages participants to observe a coordinated weekly energy reduction period from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Monday by switching off non-essential lights and reducing unnecessary electricity use.

Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said energy efficiency should be treated as a shared responsibility among government, businesses, communities, and households.

“Energy efficiency is not only a government responsibility—it is a shared responsibility among households, businesses, and communities. Through O.N.E., we hope to inspire Filipinos to embrace simple yet meaningful practices that contribute to a more energy-efficient nation,” Garin said.

Private support

Robinsons Land said it will support the campaign through Robinsons Malls by safely shutting down or dimming non-essential lighting across its properties nationwide during the scheduled hour.

These include decorative, accent, and display lights, as well as lighting in areas not in active use, while ensuring that safety and essential operations are maintained.

Robinsons Land president and chief executive officer Mybelle V. Aragon-GoBio said sustainability remains an important part of how the company operates and engages with the communities it serves.

“At a time when responsible energy use has become increasingly critical, we recognize the role of the private sector in translating sustainability goals into practical, everyday action,” Aragon-GoBio said.

“At Robinsons Malls, we recognize that sustainability must be translated into everyday operational practices across our developments,” Go said.

Long-term push

The campaign builds on Robinsons Land’s broader energy conservation initiatives, including the use of energy-efficient technologies, solar power systems, optimized LED lighting, and natural daylight design across its developments.
