Under a colocation agreement, SG.GS will deploy network infrastructure within VITRO’s carrier-neutral data center facilities, giving it access to carriers, cloud providers, internet service providers and enterprises operating in the country.
In a statement, the companies said the deployment would provide more interconnection options for organizations in the Philippines while improving connectivity between domestic and international networks.
Regional gateway
The partnership is expected to strengthen the Philippines’ role as an aggregation and distribution point for regional and international internet traffic and provide another transit option within the Asia-Pacific connectivity network.
“By colocating within our carrier-neutral facilities, they gain direct access to a rich interconnection landscape — spanning global carriers, cloud providers, ISPs, and Philippine enterprises — that strengthens the Philippines’ position as a high-performance transit hub in Asia-Pacific,” said Davis Yolangco, VITRO REIT assistant vice president and sales group head.
VITRO, together with ePLDT Inc., operates hyperscale-grade data center infrastructure in the Philippines serving enterprises, cloud providers and network operators.
SG.GS, meanwhile, operates more than 200 points of presence across over 30 markets and connects through more than 30 subsea cable systems. The Singapore-headquartered wholesale carrier has operated network infrastructure for more than 25 years.
“Colocating in VITRO allows us to extend our neutral, low-latency network deeper into the Philippines and enhance connectivity across APAC and beyond,” SG.GS managing director Shawn Ang said.
Wider connections
The collaboration is also expected to provide new network pathways for cloud, content and enterprise workloads while improving latency and network redundancy.
PLDT Global chief operating officer Edith Gomez-Cudiamat said infrastructure partnerships could help position the Philippines as a regional digital gateway by connecting global networks and cloud platforms with local enterprises.
“Connectivity [is] a key enabler of economic growth and digital transformation,” Gomez-Cudiamat said.
PLDT Global vice president and head of global business Roselle Geronga-Dela Cruz said the partnership would help connect domestic demand with global digital infrastructure.
The companies expect the expanded connectivity ecosystem to give more international carriers and platforms access to the Philippine market while further integrating the country into the global digital value chain. — Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
