Why it matters
The acceptance of these contract awards formalizes the development of projects that will deliver a total of 6,677.218 megawatts (MW) of clean energy between 2025 and 2035. This supports the government’s goal to diversify the power mix and ensure grid stability as demand grows.
Who’s building what
Pan Pacific Renewable Power Phils. Corp. will develop three hydropower projects in Apayao, including the 2,000-MW Maton Pumped-Storage HPP and two 150 MW impounding facilities (Gened 1 and 2).
Coheco Badeo Corp. accepted the award for the 500-MW Kibungan Pumped-Storage HPP in Benguet.
Prime Infra affiliates, Olympia Violago Water and Power and Ahunan Power, are set to build the 600-MW Wawa (Rizal) and 1,400-MW Pakil (Laguna) pumped-storage projects.
San Roque Hydropower Inc., linked to the San Miguel Group, will handle three projects totaling 1,850 MW in Benguet and Aklan.
EDC and Bac-Man Geothermal Inc. will construct geothermal facilities in Sorsogon and Negros Occidental with a combined capacity of 27.2
What’s next
With bid acceptances now confirmed, developers will move forward with permitting and pre-construction. The DOE expects these projects to enhance the Philippines’ renewable energy footprint and support long-term energy security. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
