The fiber broadband provider also blacklisted more than 72,000 domains and URLs tied to prohibited content, highlighting the growing scale of cyber abuse internet providers are being forced to police.
Child safety crackdown
Most of the blocked sites were linked to child sexual abuse material and online sexual exploitation of children, areas Converge has been monitoring with UK-based watchdog Internet Watch Foundation since 2021.
The company also restricted access to phishing sites, illegal online gambling platforms, financial scams, voyeurism content and terrorist materials.
Threats escalating
The IWF earlier warned that commercial child sexual abuse websites monitored globally more than doubled to over 15,000 in a year as criminals exploit weak online security systems.
Converge senior vice president and head of cyber security services Andrew Malijan said cybercriminals are using increasingly sophisticated tactics, pushing the company to tighten defenses across its network.
Converge said it continues to enforce child online safeguarding policies aimed at protecting users, particularly minors, from online exploitation and cyber threats.
