Insider Spotlight
In partnership with Huawei Technologies Philippines Inc., Aboitiz Renewables Inc., and Union Bank of the Philippines subsidiary City Savings Bank, the foundation formally turned over a solar photovoltaic system and a newly constructed one-classroom building to the remote public school.
Bashoy Elementary School serves learners in one of Benguet’s most geographically isolated areas, about 80 kilometers from Baguio City and reachable only after several hours of travel through steep, mountainous roads.
Why it matters
For years, Bashoy Elementary School struggled with unstable electricity, limited digital access, and insufficient classroom space. These constraints affected lesson delivery, student engagement, and overall learning continuity.
The addition of reliable solar power and internet connectivity directly addresses these long-standing barriers, allowing teachers to use modern learning tools and students to study in a safer, more conducive environment.
The classroom building was constructed in collaboration with the Philippine Army, with City Savings Bank providing construction materials under the Department of Education – Cordillera Administrative Region’s Salaknib Tan Namnama initiative.
The Ibaloi phrase, which means “Protecting and Giving Hope,” reflects the program’s goal of restoring confidence and opportunity among learners who face daily challenges shaped by distance and terrain.
What they’re saying
“This project reflects what becomes possible when institutions come together with a shared purpose,” said Aboitiz Foundation impact lead for education Jowelle Ann Cruz in a press release.
“We must continue working together to ensure that every child, regardless of geography, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Through this donation, we are empowering last-mile learners with the tools and spaces they deserve.”

The event also marked the ceremonial turnover of additional solar photovoltaic systems for Awing Primary School and Labney Primary School. These donations extend the reach of AuroraPH to more last-mile learning communities in Benguet, reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to inclusive education.
By the numbers
Since launching in 2024, AuroraPH has energized 44 schools nationwide. In Benguet alone, six schools now benefit from the program, including Bashoy Elementary School, Awing Primary School, and Labney Primary School. The long-term goal is to reach 300 last-mile schools across the country.
What’s next
Through AuroraPH, Aboitiz Foundation continues to support the Department of Education’s mission by enabling power supply, internet connectivity, and digital readiness in geographically isolated communities, helping ensure that no learner is left behind. —Princess Daisy C.
