Team up for security: PLDT, BSP, DICT & GMSA roll out next-gen authentication

PLDT Enterprise has unveiled SmartSafe, a next-generation authentication platform developed in collaboration with key regulators and the global mobile industry body GSMA.

Teaming up with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), National Privacy Commission (NPC), and National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), PLDT aims to make every login, payment, and digital transaction safer and simpler for Filipinos.

SmartSafe is the country’s first telco-enabled fraud management API suite, designed to help businesses and consumers move beyond traditional one-time passwords (OTPs).

“With SmartSafe SilentAccess, we are proud to be the first in the country to deliver the safest telco-powered authentication solution available today,” said Blums Pineda, senior vice president and head of the Enterprise Business Group at PLDT and Smart.

“Because when businesses and their customers feel safe, they have the confidence to grow,” Pineda added.

Key features

    •    SilentAccess: Real-time user authentication through Smart’s mobile network, removing the need for SMS-based OTPs.

    •    NetIdentity: Verifies the authenticity of SIM cards and devices to prevent identity spoofing.

    •    GeoCheck: Detects users’ real-time network locations to flag suspicious or fraudulent activity.

    •    RoamStatus: Confirms if a mobile number is on roaming, helping validate cross-border transactions.

    •    KYCPlus: Enhances customer verification by integrating network intelligence for stronger digital identity checks.

What’s next?

PLDT partnered with Nabstract, a GSMA Open Gateway Channel Partner, to power SmartSafe’s API-driven security framework. The collaboration allows enterprises to integrate anti-fraud tools and identity checks directly into their digital platforms.

Following the launch, PLDT Enterprise plans to hold a partnership event with aggregators and industry players to strengthen collaboration across banking, e-commerce, and government sectors.
