JCI accreditation is widely recognized as the “gold standard” in global healthcare quality and patient safety. It reflects an institution’s ability to meet rigorous international benchmarks on clinical care, patient outcomes, and hospital operations.
Reaccreditation under the 8th Edition Standards—effective July 2024—signals that SLMC is continuously evolving in line with the world’s most advanced healthcare systems.
What they’re saying:
“This is more than just a seal. It is a symbol of St. Luke’s unwavering commitment to deliver care on par with the highest international standards,” said Dr. Dennis P. Serrano, SLMC president and CEO. “It reaffirms that Filipino healthcare institutions can lead on the global stage.”
What’s new:
JCI’s 8th Edition introduces updated focus areas such as:
Tracking and reducing diagnostic errors
Delivering equitable care to vulnerable populations
Leveraging data for clinical and operational decision-making
Enhancing electronic health record integrity and security
How it works:
Hospitals are assessed across 17 measurable core standards, including patient access and continuity of care, anesthesia and surgical protocols, and international patient safety goals. SLMC’s reaccreditation means it continues to meet or exceed these criteria.
Big picture:
Beyond clinical care, reaccreditation boosts SLMC’s credentials in medical tourism, corporate health services, and global insurance partnerships. It strengthens stakeholder confidence and opens the door to international collaborations.
Flashback:
SLMC – Global City first earned JCI accreditation in 2012—just two years after opening. Few hospitals globally achieve such early recognition, and fewer still maintain it across four cycles.
What’s next:
The accreditation is valid for three years, during which continuous quality monitoring will take place. St. Luke’s plans to leverage its global standing to expand its leadership in healthcare innovation and patient safety. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
