Shipping regulator Marina confirms cyberattack, web systems compromised

The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) has confirmed that a cyberattack compromised four of its web-based systems on June 16, 2024.

In a statement, the shipping regulatory agency said the breach prompted immediate action by  Marina officials and employees at its central office to protect system integrity.

Collaborating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology-Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (DICT-CICC), Marina's IT team is investigating the attack and working to mitigate the data breach. 

Efforts are underway to restore system functionality by tomorrow, June 18, 2024, to resume receiving and processing applications.

Marina also assured the public of its commitment to enhancing cybersecurity protocols to prevent future incidents.
