Pabaon Para sa Kinabukasan
In ceremonies held at Pasig Elementary School on April 2, Piolo Pascual helped kick off a feeding and fundraising campaign dubbed “Pabaon Para sa Kinabukasan,” which aims to support nutrition-at-risk students in remote communities of Ifugao—where walking long distances to reach school is a daily reality.
Piolo, through the mobile Jeepney Kitchen, was also on hand to serve RAHP’s signature rice-soy ginataan meals, which is specially formulated by dietitians, to over 200 school children with special needs, coinciding with the celebration of World Autism Awareness Day.
“My advocacy has always been education,” said Pascual, who has four films in the pipeline this year aside from a US tour. “But when I was told of Rise Against Hunger’s objective to feed people and alleviate poverty, that’s when I realized that we need nutrition for the kids to be able to study, to be able to have the energy to go to school, and to absorb everything that they listen to or learn.”
Notably, Piolo pointed out how a P155 donation funds a meal pack that feeds 10-12 kids, which in turn helps improve their health, attendance, and performance while easing the burden on parents’.
“It’s a privilege and quite humbling to be part of this endeavor,” Pascual further said.
A decade of fighting hunger and nourishing lives
For its part, Rise Against Hunger Philippines said that they are happy to have Piolo Pascual as their campaign ambassador which allows “everyone to be ate and kuya to these kids.”
Now in its 10th year, Rise Against Hunger Philippines has been working to end hunger in remote, last-mile communities worldwide—including in the Philippines, where nearly 45 percent of the population experiences food insecurity.
Toward this end, RAHP has partnered with San Miguel Corp. for the Better World Tondo Food Bank, aiming to address hunger and malnutrition; Pepsi Philippines for the Jeepney Kitchen and Food Bank, delivering freshly cooked nutritious meals to vulnerable communities; Mondelez Philippines for feeding programs; and Amway Philippines for the Dietary Supplementation Program (DSP), providing a daily feeding program and a series of workshops on livelihood, nutrition, and health for mothers.
