The power distributor said its teams are fully mobilized to address any electricity-related concerns that may arise during the electoral process.
More than 3,000 polling precincts, canvassing centers, and critical election sites within Meralco’s franchise area will be monitored, with personnel and technical crews ready for immediate deployment.
“Historically, Meralco’s franchise has had no major troubles during elections. Nonetheless, we have put in place contingency measures in case of isolated outages or service interruptions. Our personnel across the organization will be ready to respond 24/7,” Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications, said in a statement.
To ensure a rapid response, Meralco will deploy over 160 generator sets and 470 floodlights in key locations.
Zaldarriaga reminded the public to avoid flying kites near power lines and discouraged the use of additional electrical appliances such as rice cookers and fans in polling centers to prevent overloading.
Since last year, Meralco has been in active coordination with the Commission on Elections, Department of Energy, and other stakeholders to guarantee power stability during the May 12 elections.
The company also conducted inspections and maintenance in schools that will serve as polling precincts to reinforce the reliability of its power distribution system. — Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
