In a statement, the company said MPower will supply renewable energy from solar and biomass sources to power nine Maynilad facilities, including water treatment plants at La Mesa Compound in Quezon City and Barangay Putatan in Muntinlupa, along with pumping stations in Pasay, Las Piñas, Quezon City, and Parañaque.
This shift will reduce Maynilad's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 18,000 tons annually, equivalent to removing 4,284 gas-fueled cars from the roads.
Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez said “increasing our use of renewable energy by 15% is a significant step towards our goal of carbon neutrality by 2037.”
Maynilad plans to further expand renewable energy use to 30% by 2025 and 40% by 2027, aligning with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
