Lalamove, a leading on-demand delivery platform, said the shift was driven primarily by the growing demand for flexible, income-generating opportunities.
The survey results, it added, underscore the platform’s expanding role in shaping new career paths through flexible, technology-driven work models.
In the Philippines, the shift is just as pronounced: 21 percent of Lalamove partner drivers came from the traditional logistics sector, while 20 percent were previously office employees or self-employed. This signals a growing preference for more adaptable and autonomous income models.
Why flexibility matters
A core theme emerging from the survey is flexibility. Sixty-five percent of Lalamove’s partner drivers globally cited flexible work schedules as their primary motivation for joining the platform. Additionally, 47 percent noted that being able to choose their work hours helps them better manage personal and family responsibilities.
“Lalamove gives me the freedom to earn while still spending time with my family,” said Macky Bravo, a motorcycle driver-partner based in the Philippines. “I use what I earn to support my stepdaughter’s college tuition. Plus, since I manage my time, I get to bond with her more.”
This kind of autonomy has made the platform an attractive alternative for those tired of rigid schedules and limited earning capacity. Whether supplementing income or replacing a full-time job, the app-based model is now a cornerstone of modern livelihoods.
Driving toward a better Life
The survey also found that 63 percent of Lalamove drivers rely on the platform to increase their income and gain financial stability. With many drivers supporting families—two-thirds have children and 63 percent are married—this earning potential is not just beneficial, but often essential.
Many partner drivers also balance Lalamove duties with other ventures, such as part-time jobs or small businesses. The platform’s design encourages this, helping users achieve a more sustainable work-life balance while building a secure financial future.
A human-centered platform
Beyond data, Lalamove is investing in storytelling to bring attention to the people behind the wheel. The newly launched “Heroes Behind the Wheel” campaign showcases inspiring stories of drivers from the Philippines and beyond. This initiative aims to celebrate the vital contributions of partner drivers not only to the platform but also to the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) they support through reliable delivery services.
“Partner drivers are the heart of every Lalamove delivery,” said Djon Nacario, managing director of Lalamove. “Their hard work powers businesses and communities alike. That’s why we remain committed to improving their livelihood through support, opportunities, and recognition.”
Redefining work, one delivery at a time
As the platform economy continues to expand, Lalamove remains a leader in providing inclusive earning opportunities that align with today’s workforce values: autonomy, purpose, and balance.
The nearly 9,000 drivers who participated in the survey underscore a global shift where flexibility is no longer a perk—it’s an expectation.
In a world where traditional employment models no longer fit everyone, Lalamove offers a compelling alternative: a career driven by choice, powered by technology, and built for modern lives. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
