The awarding ceremony, held at the GSIS Gymnasium in Pasay City, recognized winners in both Representational and Non-Representational categories. The annual event, now in its second decade, continues to serve as a platform for both emerging and veteran Filipino artists.
In the Representational category, Crispin L. Tuazon took top honors for his piece “Mang Jose.” He was followed by Ma. Jezshell Nicole Asares, who won second place for “Manpower,” and Godofredo P. Orig, who placed third with “Panalangin Para sa Bayan.”
In the Non-Representational category, Oliver C. Marquez earned first place for “Time Distortion,” followed by Danilo P. Delos Reyes Jr. with “Mga Pangarap na Bituin,” and Davidson T. Tiongson with “Gathering.”
“Since 2004, the GSIS National Art Competition has served as a national platform for both novice and seasoned artists. It plays a key role in promoting Filipino talent—many of our former participants are now celebrated in the local and international art scenes,” said GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso.
The competition is open to all Filipino citizens aged 18 and above. Finalists were chosen by a panel of respected jurors from the local arts community. The Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) has long partnered with GSIS to ensure the competition’s growth, accessibility, and impact.
“A heartfelt thanks to GSIS for their unwavering support for Philippine art and culture. Their passion for the arts is a gift to the nation,” said AAP president Fidel Sarmiento.
Winning pieces and selected entries will be exhibited at the GSIS Museum in Pasay City. The museum, which is open to the public for free, houses a growing permanent collection that celebrates Filipino creativity and cultural expression. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
