In Sorsogon City, the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective will lead the local walk in collaboration with the Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter (CAP Bicol), Sorsogon Initiatives for Culture and Arts Development, Rhymes of Peg, and Delta Beta Omega.
The event kicks off at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 5 from Sorsogon East Central School, with over 100 participants already registered.
Other local walks are organized simultaneously in many places across the Philippines and other countries.
“The concept of a Photo Walk is simple. Photo Walks are created by walk leaders in cities all over the world. Walkers meet up at a pre-designated location to spend a few hours socializing, capturing images, and sharing with like-minded people,” said Don Angelou Laureta, a member of Kurit-Lagting and this year’s walk leader in Sorsogon City.
Sorsogon’s first participation in the event dates back to 2012, led by Kurit-Lagting co-founder Geri Matthew “Choi” Carretero.
Now in its 12th year, the walk has evolved beyond photography, becoming a platform to highlight social issues through visual storytelling.
“The Photo Walk is a great opportunity for us to come together as a community to document the beauty and struggles of Sorsogon. Through this event, we can create visual stories that amplify our voices and address the issues we face every day,” said Allan Abrigo, Kurit-Lagting’s co-founder.
Organizers Judy Azul and Ruth Jocutan emphasized the power of photography as a tool for social change. “It’s not just about capturing moments, but about connecting with those who share the same passion for advocacy,” they shared.
Participants will also have a chance to enter a global contest judged by Scott Kelby himself, while also supporting a cause—the Springs of Hope Kenya Orphanage.
