Bank of the Philippine Islands’ (BPI) head of consumer banking Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go was named Retail Banker of the Year at the 2025 World Financial Innovation Series  Awards, underscoring her role in building a future-ready retail banking platform that blends digital innovation with human-centered service.

“This recognition is a reflection of what’s possible when we put clients at the center of everything we do,” Go said in a press release on Oct. 15, 2025. “Together, we’re proving that digital transformation and personal connection go hand in hand,” she adds.

The big picture

At the core of Go’s strategy is BPI’s OneConsumer Bank, a unified retail platform serving more than 16 million Filipinos through 800+ branches and multiple digital channels. Her “customer-first phygital” transformation vision integrates trusted branch experiences with advanced digital tools, positioning BPI as a model for inclusive, technology-driven banking.

BPI branches are undergoing phygital upgrades, equipping frontliners with Salesforce and Talkdesk, while scaling BEAi, its GenAI capability, across operations. The BPI app now offers Track and Plan, mobile check deposit, and digital account opening—simplifying everyday banking for millions.

Meanwhile, the BPI Loans Marketplace enables Filipinos to shop for properties, vehicles, and loans in one platform, expanding access to credit and simplifying financial decisions.

By the numbers

Under Go’s leadership:

  • Retail client base doubled in three years
  • Deposits reached P2.6 trillion
  • Digital adoption surged to 8 million users, with 4.2 million active app users

Why it matters

Go’s push for inclusion—through OFW segment relaunches, youth banking products, and strategic partnerships like GCash—has brought over 2 million underserved Filipinos into the financial system. By merging innovation, trust, and accessibility, she’s redefining what future-ready retail banking looks like.

“Banking must evolve with the needs of the people it serves,” Go emphasized. “At BPI, our purpose is clear—to help Filipinos achieve their financial goals through innovation, trust, and inclusion.” —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
