Dubbed “Currents of Connection,” the initiative highlights partnerships across education, arts, English and innovation, while positioning future collaboration as a continuing priority for both nations.
The campaign also comes as the Philippines holds the chairship of ASEAN, giving added significance to regional cooperation efforts supported by the British Council and its Philippine partners.
Why it matters
The British Council said the initiative reflects how UK–Philippines ties have evolved beyond historical relations into practical collaborations supporting skills development, cultural exchange and innovation ecosystems.
Recent projects under the partnership include the ASEAN-UK Creative Economy Symposium with the Department of Trade and Industry and the National Capacity-Building and Consultation Workshop on Technology Readiness and Valuation with the Department of Science and Technology.
The organization said these programs demonstrate how UK-backed collaborations are being applied to strengthen local institutions and support innovation-driven growth in the Philippines.
The bigger picture
The British Council has long worked with Philippine government agencies, universities and creative institutions through programs focused on education pathways, cultural exchange and English language learning.
Its work also includes English language assessments such as IELTS and Aptis, which continue to support students and professionals pursuing international education and career opportunities.
“UK–Philippines relations are not defined by history alone, but by collaboration that continues to create real opportunities for both countries,” Lotus Postrado, country director of the British Council in the Philippines, said in a press statement.
“As we mark 80 years of partnership, our focus is firmly on what comes next—working together across education, the arts and English to support skills development, innovation and deeper regional cooperation,” Postrado added.
What’s next
The British Council said it will continue working with partners including the Commission on Higher Education and the British Embassy Manila through 2026 as part of broader efforts to deepen bilateral and regional engagement.
The campaign will run across multiple platforms throughout the year to showcase ongoing initiatives and partnerships linking the Philippines, the UK and the wider ASEAN region. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
