Alternergy is the renewable power firm chaired by former Energy Secretary Vicente S. Pérez Jr.
The SEC and PSE joined the company in a bell-ringing ceremony launching the Green Equity Label, the first framework of its kind in Southeast Asia.
Expansion pipeline in focus
Alternergy president Gerry P. Magbanua thanked regulators for backing a system designed to broaden access to sustainability-focused investors.
“SEC’s leadership in creating the Green Equity Label framework is visionary. SEC has taken regulation beyond compliance. This certification creates the pathway for sustainable capital to flow where it is needed most, in particular the growth of renewable energy development,” he said.
Magbanua added that the label “opens real doors” for attracting investors when the company returns to the equity market, noting Alternergy’s 225 MW of projects completing by year-end and roughly 450 MW awarded under Green Energy Auction 4.
Signal to other listed firms
PSE president Ramon S. Monzon encouraged other listed and soon-to-list companies to consider applying for certification.
He said, “For investors that use sustainability, specifically climate as an investment theme, seeing the Green Equity Label is an easy and efficient way to choose securities that meet their investment standards.”
