Ending the year with purpose, regional agribusiness player Aboitiz Foods reinforced its mission of sustainably feeding Asia’s growth from mill to meal through a series of community initiatives across the Philippines and China.
The big picture
Anchored on its brand promise, “Together we nourish the future,” the company’s year-end programs reflect its belief that sustainable growth is built on shared progress—uplifting communities while strengthening trust in the regions where it operates.
Through its producer brands Pilmico and Gold Coin, Aboitiz Foods implemented initiatives addressing food security, health, and social inclusion, particularly among vulnerable groups, while fostering partnerships with local institutions.
What they’re saying
“As we end the year, we are reminded that our role as a food and agribusiness company goes beyond the food value chain,” Joeben Gamatero, vice president for brand & reputation management and agribusiness marketing at Aboitiz Foods, said in a press statement.
“‘Together we nourish the future’ is how we choose to grow—by uplifting communities, empowering people, and building trust wherever we operate. When communities thrive, our business becomes stronger, more resilient, and more relevant across the region,” he added.
In the Philippines
Aboitiz Foods, through Pilmico Foods Corp. and Pilmico Animal Nutrition Corp., rolled out outreach programs supporting vulnerable groups and host communities.
On Dec. 13, 35 employee-volunteers supported 50 Badjao students from the Presbyterian Christian Academy and provided assistance to 50 pediatric patients and 50 newborns with their mothers at Gregorio T. Lluch Memorial Hospital in Iligan City.
Beneficiaries received food items, school supplies, hygiene kits, and holiday care packages.
“This initiative brought joy and encouragement to the children and their families,” said Henrieto I. Pacaldo, school administrator of Presbyterian Christian Academy.
Earlier in Iligan, Aboitiz Foods, together with Aboitiz Foundation, Aboitiz Power, and the Department of Education, turned over solar-powered classrooms, Starlink internet connectivity, and digital learning tools to five last-mile schools under the AuroraPH program.
Meanwhile, in Tarlac and Nueva Ecija, the company distributed grocery packs, served hot meals, and organized community celebrations—reaching nearly 900 residents across six communities near its feedmill, farms, and meat operations.
In China
Extending its regional footprint, Aboitiz Foods, through Gold Coin China–Guangxi, conducted a community outreach initiative on December 6 for elderly residents in Dongshan Town, Yunnan Province.
The program provided care packages containing rice and cooking oil to 145 elderly individuals, including persons with disabilities. The town faces challenges such as limited arable land and youth outmigration, leaving many elderly residents vulnerable.
By sourcing supplies locally and working with village committees, the initiative addressed immediate needs while supporting the local economy.
What’s next
These initiatives support multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, including Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-Being, and Reduced Inequalities—while reinforcing Aboitiz Foods’ long-term operating foundations.
Looking ahead
As it enters the new year, Aboitiz Foods said it will continue scaling its impact responsibly, ensuring growth delivers value not just across the food value chain, but also in the communities that sustain it. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
