The company's efforts earned it the Sustainability Rising Star Award at the ACES Awards, recognizing its initiatives in employee volunteerism, circularity, community engagement and business operations.
Why it matters
The initiatives reflect how energy companies are integrating sustainability into their operations while responding to changing customer needs and growing interest in cleaner energy solutions.
With more than a century of operations in the Philippines, Shell Pilipinas continues to diversify its offerings beyond conventional fuels to include lubricants, EV charging and electricity-related solutions.
The company is expanding access to EV charging through its retail network and commercial partnerships while offering customers options to diversify their energy sources.
Community impact
Employee volunteerism forms part of Shell Pilipinas' sustainability programs through Shell ACTS, or A Community That Serves.
Around 1,900 employees have participated in community initiatives, including installing solar home systems that provided electricity to 70 Dumagat households in Sto. Niño, Rizal.
Through Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI), the company also supports environmental protection, livelihood development and community assistance programs.
Now in its 44th year, the foundation reports reaching approximately 17 million beneficiaries through its programs.
In 2025, PSFI-supported activities included planting 7,360 trees across several locations, including Batangas, La Union, Palawan, Bacolod, Iloilo, Tagbilaran and Tacloban.
Circular economy
Shell Pilipinas is also incorporating recycled materials into infrastructure and community projects to reduce waste and promote resource recovery.
A retail station in Bulacan incorporated materials derived from processed plastic waste, while Ecohub projects in Batangas, Tacloban and Cagayan de Oro supported the production of ecobricks and ecocast products.
Working with Plastics Credit Exchange, the company supported the production of 110 bicycle racks using approximately 3,000 kilograms of processed plastic waste.
Its Shell Plasticycle Program converted four to six tonnes of used plastic pallets into more than 150 school armchairs.
Meanwhile, the ReShell: Weaving Waste Project established a textile recovery and weaving hub in Payatas, Quezon City, providing livelihood training while transforming discarded textiles into reusable materials.
The bigger picture
The initiatives demonstrate Shell Pilipinas' efforts to connect its commercial operations with environmental and social programs.
The company said its sustainability recognition reflects the contributions of employees, community organizations and partners in advancing resource recovery, environmental protection and community development. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
