Insider Spotlight
The move marks a milestone for the export-oriented company, which established operations at the Aboitiz Economic Estates-developed industrial park in 2015 as a locator leasing an 8,000-square-meter facility.
The latest investment signals its transition from tenant to landowner, underscoring confidence in the country's manufacturing sector and long-term growth prospects.
The big picture
Fong Shann specializes in paper-based printing and packaging products for international markets. Since entering the Philippines, the company has expanded into a 15,000-square-meter plant and invested in advanced manufacturing equipment, including a Komori 6+1 press, flexographic and gluing machines, and spot UV technology.
Its new purpose-built facility significantly expands production capacity, enabling the company to improve efficiency, shorten lead times, and support a broader range of products, including manuals, brochures, labels, posters, and color boxes.
The expansion also strengthens its ability to serve customers across the Philippines and export markets such as Vietnam, Taiwan, and China.
Why it matters
The investment reflects broader supply chain shifts as manufacturers diversify production bases across Asia to improve resilience and reduce concentration risks.
Fong Shann's expansion demonstrates how the Philippines is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for export-oriented manufacturing backed by reliable infrastructure, logistics connectivity, and access to skilled talent.
"When a company decides to own the ground it once leased, that is the clearest vote of confidence an estate can receive. Fong Shann has grown with LIMA Estate for ten years, and its choice to build its largest facility here, as an investor, reflects the kind of long-term partnership we set out to enable," Aboitiz Economic Estates vice president and head of industrial and commercial business Clifford M. Academia said in a press statement.
"We don't just provide space; we provide the conditions for businesses to keep growing, decade after decade," he added.
What's next
The new manufacturing facility is expected to create 500 to 600 jobs, supporting economic activity in Batangas while reinforcing LIMA Estate's role as a strategic manufacturing hub for foreign investors.
LIMA Estate spans 1,100 hectares and hosts more than 200 locators employing about 75,000 workers. Aboitiz Economic Estates said the integrated industrial ecosystem is designed to support manufacturers from market entry through long-term expansion, with Fong Shann's latest investment serving as a testament to that strategy. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S.
