Rogelio V. Quevedo has been appointed as commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission after the untimely death of Hubert Dominic B. Guevara last March.

A seasoned expert in corporate law and government service, Quevedo was a former commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government and previously led the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel, providing legal oversight to government-owned corporations.

“We give our warmest welcome to Atty. Quevedo, whose decades of experience in corporate law and the government service will help the Commission navigate new and emerging trends in the business sector,” SEC chair Emilio B. Aquino said in a statement on Saturday.

Quevedo has also served in various capacities within the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Board, Presidential Management Staff, and Office of the Ombudsman.

He transitioned to government service after retiring as a senior executive in a telecommunications company and has taught commercial and civil law at the University of the Philippines College of Law, where he also supervised the Office of the Legal Aid.

Quevedo holds degrees in economics and law from UP, placed 10th in the 1981 Bar Exams, and earned advanced degrees from Louisiana State University and Tulane University in New Orleans.
