Insider Spotlight
The initiative was carried out in support of the Department of Education’s annual Brigada Eskwela program, bringing together employee volunteers to help restore learning spaces before students returned to school.
More than 70 classrooms were cleaned and repainted as part of the effort, helping prepare facilities for thousands of learners expected to attend classes this school year.
Why it matters
The rehabilitation effort highlights how private sector organizations are increasingly working alongside schools and local communities to address infrastructure and education-related challenges, particularly in areas recovering from disasters.
For San Antonio Elementary School, the support comes at a critical time as it seeks to resume normal operations after the fire incident.
PITX also turned over cleaning materials to assist the school’s continuing maintenance and rehabilitation activities.
Meanwhile, Megawide Foundation distributed 420 school supply kits to students and families affected by the fire, helping reduce back-to-school expenses and ensuring children have access to essential learning materials.
The bigger picture
The initiative drew additional support from the Knowledge Channel Foundation, which donated television units intended to enhance classroom instruction and provide students with access to educational content. The contribution is expected to strengthen teaching resources as the school rebuilds and resumes regular learning activities.
“Brigada Eskwela is more than preparing classrooms—it's about bringing communities together to support education and uplift those facing challenges. Through the collective efforts of our volunteers and partners, we hope to provide a safer, more inspiring environment where students can continue learning and pursuing their dreams,” PITX director for corporate affairs and gov’t relations Jason Salvador said in a press statement.
The activity reflects PITX’s broader commitment to community development and education. Operated by MWM Terminals, a subsidiary of Megawide Construction Corp., the transport hub said partnerships with organizations sharing similar goals can help create lasting impact beyond transportation services and contribute to rebuilding communities affected by crises. —Vanessa Hidalgo| Ed: Corrie S.
