  • NGCP signs MOA with DENR, LGUs for 243-hectare forest plantation
  • Project to run for three years, covering six Bohol municipalities
  • Part of NGCP’s push for sustainability and stable power supply

Power transmission operator National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has teamed up with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local government units (LGUs) in Bohol to roll out a reforestation drive promoting environmental protection and community development.

Driving the initiative:

Under a newly signed memorandum of agreement (MOA), NGCP and its partners will establish and maintain a 243-hectare forest plantation across six municipalities in Bohol over a three-year period.

NGCP president and CEO Anthony L. Almeda, who represented the company during the signing, stressed the importance of private sector support in safeguarding natural resources.

“This MOA seeks to support reforestation and environmental sustainability efforts in the province. NGCP is always ready to extend its support to LGUs in their initiatives to protect the environment,” Almeda said.

Who’s involved:

Environment Secretary Raphael Lotilla signed on behalf of the DENR, alongside representatives from the Bilar Water and Sanitation Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the LGUs of Batuan, Bilar, Catigbian, Sagbayan, and Sierra Bullones.

Why it matters:

The project highlights a dual approach—boosting environmental protection while reinforcing community development. Reforestation is seen as a long-term investment in both ecological balance and disaster mitigation in Bohol.

The bigger picture:

Beyond forest restoration, NGCP is investing in infrastructure that underpins regional progress. Its Cebu-Bohol Interconnection Project ensures a more stable power supply to the province, providing the energy backbone needed for sustained socio-economic growth.

By aligning environmental protection with energy security, NGCP’s latest initiative underscores its role not only as a power transmission service provider but also as a key player in promoting sustainable development across the country. —Ed: Vanessa Hidalgo
