GCash activates Security Center to enhance account safety

Insider Spotlight

  • GCash introduced an in-app Security Center that consolidates account protection tools in one place
  • New features include Lock My Account, Money Lock, and Subscription Center to help users quickly respond to potential threats
  • The rollout supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act and GCash's broader cybersecurity efforts

GCash has launched a new in-app Security Center, giving users greater control over the security of their accounts through a centralized hub that brings together new and existing protection tools.

The Security Center introduces three user-controlled safeguards: Lock My Account for immediate account suspension, Money Lock for securing wallet funds, and Subscription Center, which enables users to view and remove merchant and app connections linked to their GCash account.

The company said consolidating these features into one location allows customers to respond more quickly to suspicious activity while strengthening account protection.

Why it matters

The launch aligns with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act, which aims to strengthen safeguards against financial fraud and cyber threats.

GCash said the Security Center supports these regulatory standards by making security tools more accessible and enabling users to take faster action when risks arise.

Lock My Account functions as an emergency account suspension tool that users can activate through GCash's AI-powered digital assistant, Gigi.

Once enabled, it logs users out of all active sessions, blocks outgoing transactions, and prevents changes to account information. The feature can also be activated outside the app, allowing users to suspend their accounts even if their mobile device has been lost or compromised.

To restore access, users must submit a request through Gigi and complete an enhanced authentication process that includes Double Safe multi-factor authentication and additional verification measures.

The details

The Subscription Center gives users visibility into merchants and applications connected to their GCash account. Customers can unlink services in real time to stop future recurring payments, although refund requests for completed transactions must still be handled directly with the merchant.

GCash said it can provide transaction records and supporting documentation for refund requests.

Money Lock allows users to protect a portion of their wallet funds through GSave, GCash's savings platform offered with BSP-supervised partner banks, including CIMB Bank Philippines, UNO Digital Bank, BPI, and Maybank Philippines.

Locked funds remain under the user's ownership but are reserved for safekeeping and cannot be used for everyday transactions until unlocked.

The Security Center also consolidates existing features such as device management, authentication settings, and security education resources to provide users with a single destination for account protection.

What they're saying

"The Security Center is part of our broader commitment to protect our users by giving them clearer visibility and control over their accounts. By making these tools simple and easy to use, we empower customers to take action and better protect their accounts and funds," GCash chief information security officer Miguel Geronilla said.

The launch follows several recent security initiatives by GCash, including the adoption of in-app one-time passwords to combat phishing, measures against QR phishing and fake websites, and the blocking of more than 3,200 merchants linked to illegal gambling.

The Security Center's features have been available since early June 2026 as part of GCash's ongoing efforts to enhance user protection.

The company is encouraging users to regularly review their linked accounts, update their security settings, and use the available tools to better safeguard their funds and digital transactions. — Ramon C. Nocon | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
