To promote environmentally responsible habits, the DTI’s Fair Trade Group rolled out a social media campaign dubbed “DTI’s Sustainability Challenge: Shift today and be a smart consumer.”
A key feature of the campaign was the Sustainable Consumption Bingo Challenge, where participants earned rewards by completing tasks such as conserving energy and buying local products.
Eco-friendly routines
Complementing the campaign, the “Sustainably Yours” initiative spotlighted DTI officials’ personal eco-friendly routines to inspire public participation. Additionally, the Consumer Care Webinar Series offered expert guidance on sustainable living, including sessions on using ecolabels for smart purchasing and community plastic cleanup efforts.
“As policymakers and advocates, our actions today shape tomorrow’s communities. We call on businesses, consumers, and the government to work together for a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future,” said Trade Secretary Cristina A. Roque.
Educating consumers
Across the country, DTI’s regional offices led community-centered activities. These included plant distribution in the Cordilleras, tree planting in Regions 1, 2, and 6, bamboo propagation in Region 3, mangrove planting in Regions 4B, 9, 10, and 11, and coastal cleanups in multiple coastal provinces.
Consumer education seminars were also held in Regions 2, 4A, 8, 9, and 13, while Diskwento Caravans and sustainability swap parties were hosted in Regions 4A, 5, and 11. The celebration also featured fun wellness events like bike rides and fun runs, along with partnerships such as “Bee Earth’s Best Friend” with private sector groups.
“In building a ‘Bagong Pilipinas,’ we champion fair, sustainable, and secure marketplaces that uplift both consumers and responsible enterprises,” Roque said. — Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
