As more Filipinos adopt flexible work arrangements and look for accessible spaces where they can work, rest, and connect, malls are increasingly evolving beyond retail destinations into everyday community hubs that support changing urban lifestyles.

In response to these shifting needs, Ayala Malls this month introduced “Our Common Place” across One Ayala, Greenbelt, and Glorietta—shared spaces designed for productivity, community interaction, and practical support initiatives.

The initiative, Ayala Malls said in a statement, reflects changing workplace arrangements, rising living costs, and the growing demand for accessible spaces that promote both productivity and everyday well-being.

Shared spaces

Across participating malls, visitors will find areas designed for remote work, casual meetings, creative activities, or simply taking a break during the day.

The spaces feature open tables, charging stations, lounge seating, small-group areas, and quieter corners intended to accommodate different needs throughout the day.

Ayala Malls said the initiative aligns with changing workplace arrangements, rising living costs, and the growing demand for accessible spaces that promote both productivity and everyday well-being.

“Today, people are looking for places that support how they live day to day,” said Mae Dichupa, head of marketing and consumer experience at Ayala Malls.

“With Our Common Place, we’re opening up spaces where people can work, pause, or spend time with others—while making it easy to help one another. It makes the mall more meaningful in everyday life,” she added.

Community support

Complementing the shared workspaces are community pantries that allow mallgoers to donate essential goods as part of their regular visits.

Collected donations will support the Makati public utility vehicle (PUV) community, particularly transport workers who continue to face economic challenges.

Ayala Malls said the pantry spaces are designed to remain simple and accessible, allowing anyone in need to receive support without barriers.

The company described the initiative as a practical and low-pressure way for people to contribute to their communities through everyday routines.

Mall features

At One Ayala, “Our Common Place” includes The Stacks, a communal reading nook located on the fourth level, and The Hobby Hub, which offers board games and hands-on activities for visitors seeking to unplug or relax.

The community pantry is located at the upper ground level, with additional donation points at The Stacks and The Hobby Hub.

At Greenbelt 5, the shared space focuses on creative exploration and productivity, featuring lounge seating, work desks, and a coffee pop-up. A donation corner is also integrated into the area.

Meanwhile, Glorietta’s “Our Common Place,” located at the Palm Drive lobby, includes communal tables, a children’s area, productivity essentials, a community board, and a coffee pop-up. Its community pantry is also situated within the shared space.

Evolving role

Ayala Malls said the initiative reflects the changing role of malls in urban life, particularly as more people seek flexible environments where they can work, gather, and access community support outside traditional office or home settings.

“With Our Common Place, Ayala Malls is part of everyday life—where people can work, rest, connect, and support one another in simple, practical ways,” the company said. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
