6 tech trends Cisco says will shape Philippine businesses in 2025

The business landscape in the Philippines is undergoing seismic shifts, driven by technological innovations and global challenges.

Zaza Soriano-Nicart, managing director of Cisco Philippines, the local unit of the US-based tech giant, highlighted six pivotal trends set to redefine the way businesses operate in 2025.

AI takes the spotlight—with challenges

Artificial intelligence (AI) remains a top priority, but it’s not without hurdles. Only 22 percent of Philippine companies feel fully prepared to leverage AI, citing infrastructure gaps and underwhelming returns on investments.

"Only about one-fifth (22 percent) of companies have the necessary GPUs to meet current and future AI demands and less than half (45 percent) have the capabilities to protect data in AI models with end–to–end encryption, security audits, continuous monitoring, and instant threat response," according to Soriano-Nicart.

To address this, businesses must modernize data centers and adopt flexible solutions like Cisco’s AI PODS.

Data governance becomes a priority

As AI permeates everyday operations, responsible use, data protection, and compliance take center stage. Companies will need to implement robust AI frameworks and privacy safeguards to meet evolving local and global regulations.

Cybersecurity at machine scale

The rise in sophisticated cyberattacks demands smarter defenses. Networks are evolving into self-protecting systems, incorporating AI for threat detection and response. Technologies like Cisco’s Hypershield integrate security directly into devices, redefining resilience against attacks.

Balancing AI growth with sustainability

AI’s growth brings environmental concerns. Predictions suggest AI alone could consume as much water as New Zealand by 2027. Businesses must adopt energy-efficient technologies and circular models, such as Cisco’s Silicon One chip and Takeback and Reuse programs, to meet net-zero goals.

Humans and AI in harmony

AI isn’t replacing workers—it’s augmenting them. Employees who harness AI effectively will boost productivity and efficiency, making upskilling essential. Programs like Cisco’s Networking Academy are pivotal in closing the digital skills gap.

The office as a magnet, not a mandate

The future workplace will be about connection and innovation, not rigid attendance. Employers must foster trust and create tech-enabled spaces that enhance collaboration and creativity.

"As employees shift their mindset from coming to the office to do heads-down work to using this as an opportunity to connect, innovate and collaborate with their teams, employers need to cultivate an environment that supports this type of work,"  said Soriano-Nicart.
