Typhoon Carina causes 80 flight cancellations at Manila Airport

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) saw 80 domestic and international flight cancellations and one diverted trip amid heavy rains brought by typhoon Carina on Wednesday.

Affected flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport were those operated by Cebu Pacific and Cebgo, Philippine Airlines, PAL Express, Eva Air, and KLM. One Royal Air flight from Da Nang in Vietnam to Manila was diverted to Clark International Airport, a 12:30 p.m. advisory from MIAA showed.

Cebu Pacific’s canceled flights included routes like Manila-San Jose, Manila-Naga, Manila-Masbate, Manila-Siargao, Manila-Busuanga, Manila-Legazpi, Manila-Caticlan, and Manila-Cebu.

Carriers offer rebooking, refunds

In a separate advisory, the budget carrier said passengers can rebook for free, use a travel fund, or get a full refund through its manage booking portal up to two hours before departure.

AirAsia Philippines is also offering flexible options to guests who may be affected by massive flooding. It said trips will operate as scheduled, subject to weather conditions.

Safety first

"We understand that reaching the airport may be challenging for many of our guests as many roads may be inaccessible,” said Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines communications and public affairs head.

“We know how tough these times can be, and we want to provide guests with the flexibility they need to focus on what's most important -- their family and safety,” he added.
